Have you ever wondered what it would be like to work with our closest living relatives? At Chimp Eden, volunteers play a vital role in helping us care for our rescued chimpanzees and raising awareness about their plight.
Chimpanzee populations are declining at an alarming rate in the wild, and they could face extinction within the next 10–20 years if current trends are not reversed. While chimpanzees are not native to South Africa, our mission is to provide lifelong sanctuary to those rescued from the bushmeat trade, the illegal pet industry, and exploitation in circuses, beach resorts, and nightclubs.
By volunteering with us, you become a chimpanzee conservation ambassador, helping us bring the world of chimpanzees closer to humanity through education and eco-tourism.
What Volunteers Do
Work alongside our experienced caregivers and staff in a variety of essential tasks, including:
- Preparing daily diets for the chimpanzees
- Assisting with cleaning and enclosure upkeep
- Creating and providing enrichment items
- Helping with maintenance around the sanctuary
- Supporting education and outreach activities
Who Can Volunteer
We welcome both local and international volunteers for this once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. You’ll get to know our 33 chimpanzees (hands-off, for their safety and yours) and experience their unique personalities while directly supporting their care.
How to Apply
Chimp Eden is a registered non-profit organisation, and all volunteer fees go directly toward the care of the chimpanzees and the running of the sanctuary.
For international volunteers, placements are organised through our trusted partner The Great Projects.
