Chimp Guardianship Programme
Become a Guardian of a Chimp
The Jane Goodall Institute South Africa – Chimpanzee Sanctuary Guardianship Programme gives individuals and organisations worldwide the chance to make a lasting impact in the lives of our rescued chimpanzees.
By choosing a Guardianship Package, you can virtually become a guardian of one (or more) of the chimpanzees living at our sanctuary in Mbombela, South Africa. Guardianship lasts for 12 months and directly supports food, enrichment, medical care, and the safe environment our chimps deserve.
As a Guardian, you can:
- Choose any chimpanzee to support
- Become a guardian for more than one chimp
- Know that your contribution directly funds chimpanzee welfare and sanctuary operations

Ways to become a guardian?
At the sanctuary
- Ask at reception or your guide about the guardianship programme.
- Fill in your form after meeting the chimps at Chimp Eden.
- Choose a chimpanzee from our three family groups.
- Select a Chimp Guardianship package (Kiddies, Bronze, Thabu, Silver, Gold, and Diamond) level.
- Pay at reception and the form will be processed at the sanctuary.
Online*
- Visit the Jane Goodall Institute South Africa Chimpanzee Sanctuary Website (https://www.chimpeden.com) or the Jane Goodall Institute South Africa Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/JGISA)
- Click on adopt a chimp.
- Select the amount that corresponds to the package level that you will require.
- Add the chimp’s name that you would like to become a guardian of or if it is done as a gift, give the name to appear on the certificate, in the message of support section.
- Follow the instructions provided.
* Please note that no gifts will be sent out when becoming a guardian online on a kiddies or bronze level.
Renewals
Renewals of all guardianship programme packages will attract a 10% discount. All renewals will include a certificate, facts about the chimp and photographs of the chimp you have decided to become a guardian of.
