It was wonderful spending
time with Dr Jane Goodall during her quick visit
to South Africa during July.
Jane attended a JGI
SA Trust meeting, gave a fundraising talk at
Singita Sabi Sand Game Reserve and visited JGI
SA Roots & Shoots projects in Soweto.
Time did not permit
a visit to the Sanctuary, but Jane and I did
spend a day with Rescue Director Eugene Cussons
and Sanctuary Manager Phillip Cronje in
Johannesburg.

Jane was only one of
several luminaries from around the world at the
American Academy of Achievers Summit at Singita,
and we met author Alexander McCall Smith, actor
Jeremy Irons and violinist Joshua Bell (pictured
here with Jane and myself) among others.
Jane also managed a
brief catch-up with paleoanthropologist and
conservationist Richard Leakey.
Roots & Shoots is currently
without a national co-ordinator, but our
dedicated volunteers and Denis Creighton,
Director of KDR Sports and Adventure Travel, are
ensuring that the organisation’s work continues.
See Denis’ reports
on some of the recent Roots & Shoots activities
below.
We continue to work behind the scenes towards
future chimpanzee rescues – more news in our
next newsletter.
For now, thank you to all our supporters, and
enjoy this newsletter.
Kind Regards
