In South Africa, there's a sanctuary for
chimpanzees rescued from the horrors of human
captivity — physical abuse, malnutrition,
abandonment and drug and alcohol abuse.
Now, for the first time ever, these chimps find
a community and sanctuary at the hands of
conservationist Eugene Cussons, South African
rescue director at the Jane Goodall
Institute SA’s Chimpanzee Eden. Here,
the chimps finally experience safety, nurturing
and a loving environment — all necessary
conditions for them to become healthy,
rehabilitated primates poised for the return to
the wild.
This is how Animal Planet introduced Escape to
Chimp Eden when the series was launched in the
US earlier this year, referring to it as a
“bittersweet, hope-lined series about chimp
rescue and rehabilitation”.
Escape to Chimp Eden premieres in South Africa
on the Animal Planet channel on Monday, November
3, at 9pm with a special one-hour show that
spotlights a chimp rescue in Angola. Don’t miss
it!
