The tragic loss of Johann Lotz on July 8, 2008,
has left all of us who knew him deeply saddened
and with a gap in our lives. Johann was a
gentleman and a friend to all at Chimpanzee
Eden. He was much loved. We remember his
wonderful sense of humour, as well as his
never-ending plans and ideas for the Sanctuary.
It had become routine
every time I was at the sanctuary for Johann,
Phillip Cronje and I to have coffee together in
the guides’ meeting room after we had made sure
the Chimps were safely outside.
The conversation
was always interesting and, together with
whichever guides were there at the time
(Jacques, Jess, Nenine, Arnot and some of the
volunteers), we discussed Chimp Eden. These were
pleasant times which I will cherish.
Our condolences to
Johann’s family, and thanks to his parents.
It was a privilege
for us to know him, even if it was just for
short time.
Rest
in Peace Johann.
